Corset Construction & Boning Details
The bodice engineering sets the Leonie apart from typical midi dresses. We use seven spiral steel bones arranged symmetrically across the bust and ribcage, a construction method borrowed from traditional corsetry that distributes pressure evenly rather than creating single-point dig. Each bone sits inside its own fabric channel, so there’s no contact with skin.

Sizing & Fit Expectations
Bust & Waist Measurements
The WAYF Leonie polka dot corset midi dress fits true to size in the bodice, but we recommend consulting measurements rather than relying solely on your usual letter size. Measure your natural waist at its narrowest point and your bust at the fullest part, then compare those numbers to our fit chart which breaks down each size’s corresponding measurements.

Questions About the Leonie Dress
The spaghetti straps and corset bodice work best with a strapless bra or stick-on cups if you want additional support. A regular bra with visible straps won’t sit well under the thin straps. Many wearers find the built-in structure of the boned bodice provides enough support on its own, particularly in smaller cup sizes.
If you’re a D cup or larger, we recommend trying adhesive lift tape or a quality strapless bra. The bodice is fully lined, so there’s no sheerness to worry about if you choose to go braless.
Measure your natural waist and fullest part of your bust, then compare those numbers to our size chart rather than ordering your usual dress size. The boning creates a fitted waist, so if you’re between sizes, choose based on your bust measurement since the waist will cinch down.
The adjustable straps give you about three inches of length flexibility, but they won’t change the bust or waist fit. If your measurements put you at the top of one size range for bust and bottom of the next size up for waist, size up to ensure comfortable bust fit.
The polka dots are ivory on a black background, and the scale is consistent with our product photos. Each dot measures approximately half an inch in diameter with even spacing across the fabric. The print is woven into the fabric rather than screen-printed, so there’s no fading or color variation between the front and back of the material.
In different lighting the black base can read as very deep charcoal rather than pure black, but the contrast remains high. We photograph all our pieces in natural light to show accurate color representation.
The spiral steel bones are sewn permanently into their channels and cannot be removed without deconstructing the bodice lining. We don’t recommend attempting removal, as it would compromise the dress’s structure and silhouette.
If a bone becomes damaged, a professional tailor or corset maker can replace individual bones by opening the lining seam, but this is specialty work that most standard alterations shops won’t handle. The bones are designed to last the lifetime of the garment under normal wear conditions.
The dress is designed to fall mid-calf with a two-to-three-inch heel on a 5’6″ frame. Lower heels or flats will make the hem appear longer, while four-inch heels and higher will shorten the visual length to just below the knee.
Block heels and wedges balance the feminine silhouette without competing with the dress’s vintage-inspired details. Stilettos work for evening events but can make the look feel more formal than the polka dot print intends.
The lacing detail at the back is decorative only and does not function as a fit adjustment mechanism. The actual closure system is a column of hook-and-eye fasteners hidden beneath the lacing, which secure the dress at a fixed size.
You can loosen or tighten the lacing ribbon for aesthetic preference, but it won’t change how the dress fits your body. All fit adjustment comes from selecting the correct size and using the adjustable shoulder straps.
Dry clean only to preserve both the fabric and the internal boning. Machine washing will weaken the adhesive holding the boning channels in place and can cause the steel bones to shift or the fabric to pucker around them.
Between cleanings, hang the dress on a padded hanger and allow it to air out after wearing. Avoid folding it at the waist or storing it in compressed spaces. Spot-treat stains with a damp cloth on the outer fabric only, never saturating the bodice where the boning sits.
